Novo Nordisk's CEO, Mike Doustdar, stated that he does not foresee a "winner-take-all" market for obesity drugs. In an interview with Reuters, he compared the future of the market to the beverage industry, with a variety of choices for consumers, rather than a simple rivalry like Coke versus Pepsi. This suggests a long-term strategy of offering a portfolio of differentiated treatments.

Doustdar's comments come as Novo Nordisk and its main competitor, Eli Lilly, dominate the current market with their respective injectable and oral weight-loss medications. He expressed confidence in Novo's position, particularly noting that their oral Wegovy pill holds a 90% market share in the oral obesity drug market. The company also recently made its once-weekly basal insulin, Awiqli, available in the U.S., expanding its diabetes care portfolio beyond its successful obesity treatments.
