Berenberg Bank downgraded Novo Nordisk (NVO) from "buy" to "hold" on Wednesday. The bank also reduced its price target for Novo Nordisk's American depositary receipts to $47 from $50. This decision reflects concerns over increasing competition in the obesity treatment market.
Berenberg analysts cited Eli Lilly's "accelerating dominance" in oral and injectable obesity medications. This dominance limits Novo Nordisk's potential for valuation growth. Berenberg anticipates Eli Lilly will capture a significant share of the Medicare market. The bank notes the imminent FDA approval of Lilly's diabetes pill, Foundayo. This approval could further intensify competitive pressures in the second half of the year.
