Novo Nordisk's top U.S. executive, Jamey Millar, aims to increase the portion of Wegovy sales covered by health insurance. Out-of-pocket purchases currently account for 30% of injectable Wegovy sales. For the new pill form, 90% of sales come from out-of-pocket purchases. Millar seeks a more balanced 50/50 split between insured and self-pay segments.
This shift targets a more traditional market model for the weight-loss drug. A U.S. Medicare pilot program, starting in July, could increase insured demand. This focus on insurance coverage forms part of Novo Nordisk's strategy for its GLP-1 drugs.
