The UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) approved Novo Nordisk's Wegovy (semaglutide injection) for metabolic-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). This authorization applies to adult patients suffering from moderate-to-advanced liver fibrosis. The move expands the blockbuster drug's clinical use beyond its established weight management and diabetes applications.

The MHRA granted the new indication on July 3, 2026. Official announcement of the approval followed on July 6. MASH occurs when excess liver fat triggers inflammation and scarring. The disease is most prevalent among individuals living with obesity or type 2 diabetes.

This authorization is currently conditional. Novo Nordisk must submit additional data from an ongoing clinical study to secure full marketing authorization.
