Palo Alto Networks has announced its intent to acquire Portkey, a startup specializing in AI gateway technology for managing and securing autonomous AI agents. While the financial terms were not officially disclosed, sources report the deal, comprising cash and stock, values Portkey between $120 million and $140 million. The acquisition is expected to close in Palo Alto Networks' fourth quarter of fiscal 2026.

The acquisition aims to address the growing security risks associated with AI agents, which often act as privileged insiders with access to sensitive company data. Portkey's technology provides a centralized control plane to monitor, route, and secure AI interactions. Palo Alto Networks plans to integrate Portkey as the AI Gateway for its Prisma AIRS platform, enhancing its ability to provide visibility and governance over enterprise AI deployments.
