Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) is evaluating liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports from its offshore fields to meet rising Asian demand. CEO Magda Chambriard confirmed the company is discussing infrastructure requirements with shipbuilder Seatrium. These talks focus on the necessary facilities to liquefy and transport the gas via specialized vessels.
The move represents a major strategic shift for the Brazilian state-controlled firm. Petrobras currently re-injects a significant portion of its natural gas into oil wells to increase crude production.
Executing this plan requires substantial investment in new liquefaction facilities. Petrobras has not yet disclosed a specific timeline or estimated capital expenditure for the project.
