The European Union will eliminate customs duty exemptions for imported goods valued under €150 on July 1, 2026. A new €3 customs duty will apply to these low-value imports. This measure targets non-EU online retailers including Temu, Shein, and AliExpress to create a level playing field for European businesses.
The duty applies per item or tariff code within a consignment rather than as a flat fee per package. A single parcel containing three different item types would incur a €9 total duty.
This temporary levy is expected to remain in place until at least 2028. The policy serves as a precursor to a new centralized customs data hub.
