Qantas Airways named London as the inaugural destination for its Project Sunrise initiative. This route will establish the world’s longest non-stop commercial flight by connecting Sydney directly to London.

The service is scheduled to launch in October 2027. Ticket sales for the route will commence in February 2027. The flight duration will range between 20 and 22 hours. This direct path cuts up to four hours from current travel times involving stopovers.

Qantas will utilize modified Airbus A350-1000ULR aircraft equipped with an additional fuel tank. The planes will accommodate 238 passengers across four distinct cabins.

The airline confirmed that non-stop flights from Sydney to New York will follow the London launch. Project Sunrise was first conceived in 2017 as a major investment. The initiative aims to leverage Australia’s geographic isolation into a premium, non-stop travel product.
