Roblox entered a court-enforceable undertaking with Australia's internet regulator. The agreement aims to improve child safety protections on its platform.
An investigation by the eSafety Commissioner found adult strangers could send connection requests to children without parental consent. The probe also revealed children's profiles and connections were visible to other users.
Roblox has three months to implement changes under the agreement. These changes include preventing adults from contacting unknown children. The company must also make accounts for minors private by default.
Roblox must hire an independent third-party auditor. The auditor will evaluate the effectiveness of its safety measures. This marks a first-time requirement from the regulator.
If Roblox breaches the undertaking, the eSafety Commissioner can apply to the Federal Court for an enforcement order.
