The National Center on Sexual Exploitation and Fairplay formally requested that the Federal Trade Commission investigate Roblox Corp.

The advocacy groups allege the company uses engagement-maximizing design features to coerce children into spending. The complaint claims Roblox obfuscates the real-world cost of its virtual currency, Robux.

A Roblox spokesperson disputed the claims, stating the platform prioritizes positive experiences over short-term engagement. The company emphasized that spending is not required to use the platform. Only a small percentage of daily active users were paying players in the first quarter.

This development adds to the ongoing regulatory and legal scrutiny regarding Roblox's child safety and in-game economy.
