Roblox announced it will require mandatory age verification for users to access chat features, a move aimed at enhancing child safety. The system uses facial recognition or ID checks to place users into one of six age bands, which will restrict chat to users within similar age groups and curb interactions between minors and adults. The company is positioning this as a new industry standard for online safety. The policy change comes as the company faces lawsuits and public criticism regarding child safety on its platform. The rollout is scheduled to begin in the first week of December in Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands, with a global expansion planned for early January. While age checks are optional for general platform use, they will become compulsory for accessing chat functionalities.
