Meta Platforms partnered with Reliance Industries to establish its first AI-enabled data center in India. Reliance will construct the 168-megawatt facility in Jamnagar, Gujarat. Meta will lease the site with options for future expansion. The infrastructure will support computing needs for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The collaboration deepens a relationship established by Meta’s 2020 investment in Reliance’s Jio Platforms. Both companies currently operate a joint venture to develop AI tools using Meta’s Llama models.
The new facility will utilize renewable energy and desalinated seawater for cooling. This deal reflects the rapid growth of India’s data center market driven by cloud adoption and AI demand.
