Rheinmetall AG and Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) confirmed a joint venture to acquire the bankrupt Mangalia shipyard in Romania. The facility ranks as one of the largest shipyards in Europe.
The partners plan to revitalize the site for both military and commercial shipbuilding. This dual-use model leverages existing infrastructure, including three large drydocks.
The Mangalia shipyard has been insolvent since June 2024. Rheinmetall will provide substantial investment to transform the facility into a major European shipbuilding hub.
