Rolls-Royce and its Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) partners have moved closer to the ground-testing phase for a new engine demonstrator. The international consortium includes Italy’s Avio Aero and Japan’s IHI Corporation.
The partners completed a series of design reviews for the next-generation power and propulsion system. This demonstrator serves as a critical tool for de-risking the program through the testing of integrated technologies.
Engineers have finished over 100 subscale component tests to gather data for the full power system design. The update was released to coincide with the opening of the Farnborough International Airshow.
