The Unified Patent Court (UPC) ruled against Siemens Healthineers on June 10 in a patent infringement lawsuit filed by Hologic. The court found that Siemens' MAMMOMAT B.brilliant mammography systems infringed on Hologic’s breast cancer detection technology. This patent specifically covers methods for controlling x-ray focal spot characteristics during 3D mammography.

The UPC issued an immediate injunction halting the sale, import, and use of the infringing systems in Germany, France, and the Netherlands. The ruling mandates a recall and the destruction of all affected systems within these three countries. Siemens must provide full refunds to customers for the purchase price of the recalled devices.

Hologic is entitled to both retroactive and future monetary damages. The court has yet to determine the final amount of these financial penalties.
