SK hynix is reportedly resuming construction of its second NAND flash memory plant in Dalian, China. This project restarts following a four-year suspension.
The Seoul Economic Daily reports the move aims to meet surging demand from the global AI boom. The company plans to install production equipment as early as November 2026. Mass production is scheduled for the first half of 2027.
The expansion will add approximately 50,000 wafers per month to the Dalian facility. This represents a 50% increase over the current 100,000-wafer monthly capacity.
This development follows a recent $38.1 billion investment to build two new fabrication plants in South Korea. The significant capacity addition may influence global memory pricing depending on future demand cycles.
