Sony Group Corp. and TSMC will jointly invest approximately ¥1 trillion ($6.4 billion) in a new Kumamoto factory. The facility will mass-produce next-generation image sensors for automobiles and robotics.
Sony will hold a 60% majority stake in the joint venture. TSMC will hold the remaining 40% stake.
The partners aim to establish the venture within fiscal 2026. They plan to begin production at the new plant in 2029.
The collaboration combines Sony’s sensor design expertise with TSMC’s advanced manufacturing technology. Shares of both companies rose following the announcement.
