Sony Group Corp. issued a non-binding proposal to acquire all outstanding shares of lens maker Tamron Co. Tamron confirmed receipt of the offer on July 30. The company has formed a special committee to evaluate the proposal and alternative strategic options.

Sony currently holds a 14.7% stake in the manufacturer. The deal aims to transition Tamron into a wholly-owned subsidiary.

The acquisition would merge Tamron’s optical design capabilities with Sony’s camera and sensor business. Reports value the potential transaction at approximately 200 billion yen, or $1.2 billion to $1.3 billion.
