Sony Group is in exclusive, advanced negotiations to acquire Blackstone’s Recognition Music Group. The transaction value is estimated between $3.5 billion and $4 billion. Sony is pursuing the acquisition through a joint venture with Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, GIC.

The parties could finalize the deal within one week. This acquisition would rank among the largest transactions in music industry history. Sony Music Publishing already administers the Recognition catalog.

The portfolio contains the rights to more than 45,000 songs. Featured artists include Shakira, Justin Bieber, Journey, and Neil Young. The move highlights the increasing value of hit catalogs as long-term assets for streaming and licensing revenue.
