Sony and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) have launched a joint venture to develop next-generation image sensors. The partnership will establish new production lines at Sony’s semiconductor plant in Kumamoto, Japan. Sony’s subsidiary will hold a majority stake in the new entity.

The collaboration combines Sony’s sensor design expertise with TSMC’s advanced manufacturing capabilities. This strategic move aims to widen the technology gap with competitor Samsung Electronics. Sony seeks to maintain its market leadership in CMOS sensors for smartphones and autonomous vehicles.
