Sony Group Corp. recorded a ¥120.1 billion ($765 million) impairment loss against game studio Bungie for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026.

This accounting write-down reflects a sharp decline in Bungie’s value since Sony’s $3.6 billion acquisition in 2022.

Management attributed the loss to the underperformance of key titles, including declining engagement for Destiny 2.

The new extraction shooter Marathon struggled to retain players following its March 2026 launch.

Sony recorded approximately $565 million of the total impairment during the fiscal fourth quarter.

This specific write-down coincided with the commercial disappointment of the Marathon release.
