SpaceX announced plans on Tuesday to invest $100 billion in a new manufacturing and launch facility in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana. The 125,000-acre complex, named Starbase Louisiana, will be the company’s largest spaceport. The site is designed to support thousands of Starship launches annually.
The project represents the largest capital investment in Louisiana history. The development is expected to create at least 3,000 direct jobs.
The self-sustaining campus will feature five launch complexes. These complexes will house a total of 10 launchpads. The facility will maintain its own propellant production, power generation, and deep-water shipping capabilities.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027. SpaceX targets the first launch from the new site for 2029. CEO Elon Musk intends to use the facility to increase launch frequency for Starlink and missions to the Moon and Mars.
