Spotify is discontinuing its Premium Lite subscription tier in South Africa, India, and Indonesia. The company is also reducing standard premium prices in these markets to their previous levels.
These adjustments roll back a pricing strategy introduced less than one year ago. Management cited intense competition and high price sensitivity in these growth regions as the reason for the reversal.
The previous strategy, implemented in November 2025, also featured the launch of a high-end Premium Platinum package. While lowering costs in emerging markets, Spotify recently increased prices for several plans in Canada.
This dual approach reflects the company's effort to balance global subscriber acquisition with revenue growth.
