The Conference Board reported a 0.8-point decline in its Consumer Confidence Index for August, bringing the figure down to 89.4. This reading represents the lowest level of sentiment recorded since January and stands as the second-weakest performance since April 2025.
A significant driver of the overall decline was the Expectations Index, which plummeted by 5.8 points to reach a level of 68.2.
