Surf Air Mobility Inc. and BETA Technologies launched an electric aircraft demonstration program in Hawaiʻi with support from Hawaiian Airlines. BETA’s ALIA CTOL electric aircraft will conduct demonstration flights over a six-to-eight-week period.

The program evaluates aircraft performance, operating costs, maintenance requirements, and battery efficiency. These data points will help determine the operational and infrastructure needs for future electric aviation in the state.

Surf Air Mobility intends to use BETA’s aircraft for cargo and passenger services through its subsidiary, Mokulele Airlines, once FAA certification is secured. The company also plans to build a maintenance facility in Hawaiʻi to service the electric fleet.
