First Solar Inc. withdrew its patent infringement complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). The legal dispute centers on tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) technology, a high-efficiency solution for solar cells.
The company will now focus on existing patent lawsuits in federal court against manufacturers including T1 Energy Inc. These federal proceedings were previously on hold awaiting the ITC's decision.
T1 Energy spokesperson Russell Gold described the withdrawn Section 337 complaint as flawed. Gold confirmed that T1 Energy will continue to defend itself against the remaining federal claims.
