Transelectrica and Georgian State Electrosystem (GSE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate on a high-voltage submarine cable investment. The project, connecting the energy systems of Romania and Georgia via the Black Sea, has moved into the technical preparation phase.
This initiative establishes a new energy transport route to the European Union. It strengthens Romania’s position as a regional energy hub while improving grid interconnection. The cable provides access to new energy sources and increases overall energy security. It also facilitates the integration of more renewable energy into the system.
The European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) included the project in its ten-year network development plans. The EU designated the link as a Project of Mutual Interest (PMI). This status grants the project priority access to European funding mechanisms.
