Tesla Vice President of AI Ashok Elluswamy announced the Cybercab will soon join the active robotaxi fleet in Austin, Texas. The two-passenger vehicle features no steering wheel or pedals.
Production of the purpose-built Cybercab officially began in April 2026. Tesla has operated an Austin robotaxi service with modified Model Y vehicles since June 2025.
This deployment advances Tesla's strategy to establish a full-fledged autonomous ride-hailing network. Scaling the fleet depends on the upcoming release of Full Self-Driving V15 software.
Tesla's current autonomous fleet in Texas remains significantly smaller than competitors such as Waymo.
