Tesla’s sales of China-made electric vehicles grew 3.6% year-on-year in August. This represents a sharp decline from the 38% growth recorded in July. Data from the China Passenger Car Association also shows a 7.9% drop in sales compared to the previous month.

Domestic competitors like BYD are expanding aggressively, eroding Tesla's market dominance. Tesla’s share of China’s battery electric vehicle market fell to 6.6% in the second quarter. This is a significant contraction from its peak of over 15% in 2020.
