The expense of managing United States sovereign debt has climbed to its highest point in several decades. On Thursday, the federal government completed a $25 billion sale of 30-year Treasury bonds featuring a 5.216% yield, marking the highest rate for this duration since 2001.

This issuance followed a Wednesday auction involving $42 billion in 10-year Treasury notes. These consecutive high-value offerings underscore the increasing financial burden of maintaining the nation's outstanding obligations as borrowing costs continue to hit multi-decade peaks.
