TSMC Senior Vice President Cliff Hou announced at Semicon Taiwan that the company cannot keep pace with surging AI chip demand. The manufacturer is currently constructing nearly 20 new fabrication plants to expand capacity.

TSMC revised its equipment demand forecasts multiple times this year. Latest estimates now stand at 1.9 times the original projection.

Hou warned that even this increased capacity will fail to fully satisfy market needs. Labor shortages in Taiwan and the U.S. remain a critical bottleneck for the global supply chain.
