The global pure-play semiconductor foundry market grew 29% year-over-year in the second quarter of 2026. Counterpoint Research attributes this expansion to a surge in demand for AI chips. This trend created supply-demand imbalances across both advanced and mature manufacturing nodes.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) maintained its lead with a 73% market share. The company has held this dominant position for two consecutive quarters. Success was driven by the mass production of 2-nanometer chips and 3-nanometer capacity expansion. TSMC also reported tight supply for mature processes and advanced packaging.

Samsung Electronics ranked second with a 7% market share. The performance gap between TSMC and Samsung widened to 66 percentage points.
