Taiwan’s Cabinet is currently reviewing a revived expansion plan for the Longtan Science Park in Taoyuan. The government aims to complete land acquisition by the end of 2029. Public construction for the project will commence in 2030.
The expansion is expected to create approximately 6,200 jobs. It is projected to generate an annual economic output of NT$310 billion (US$9.63 billion).
TSMC has signaled renewed interest in the park pending approval of necessary procedures. Supply-chain sources indicate the company is contemplating building two to three 1.4-nanometer fabs at the site. The plan also includes the construction of two advanced packaging plants.
TSMC previously withdrew from the original expansion plan in October 2023. Local opposition led to the project being revised to its current, smaller scope.
