Nvidia has begun shipping next-generation co-packaged optics (CPO) switches developed in collaboration with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC). The CPO-based hardware is part of the Spectrum-X platform and is now in active production for customers.

The technology integrates silicon photonics directly onto the switch chip package to shorten electrical signal paths. This architectural shift replaces traditional pluggable optical transceivers to increase data throughput and network reliability.

The deployment aims to reduce high power consumption within AI data centers. These improvements are essential for connecting the large-scale GPU clusters used in modern AI factories.
