Nuro secured a California DMV driverless testing permit for its robotaxi partnership with Uber and Lucid Group. The companies plan to launch the autonomous ride-hailing service in the San Francisco Bay Area in late 2026.
The partnership debuted the production-intent robotaxi, a modified Lucid Gravity SUV, at CES in January 2026.
Current testing includes public road trials with safety operators and employee test rides in San Francisco. This permit enables the removal of human safety drivers for the final validation phase before commercial launch.
