UPS, DHL, and FedEx petitioned EU finance ministers to implement a phased rollout of upcoming import duty reforms. The shipping giants support a proposed €3 flat-rate duty. This new rate would take effect starting July 1, 2026.
The group requested a deferral on complex regulatory elements until they are logistically viable. This appeal follows the EU's decision to abolish the €150 duty-free threshold for low-value parcels.
Industry leaders warn that immediate implementation could cause significant supply chain bottlenecks. A gradual transition would prevent customs backlogs while global networks adopt new digital customs reporting requirements.
