A Brazilian court announced that 19 additional municipalities joined the compensation agreement with Vale and BHP for the 2015 Mariana dam collapse.
The agreement now includes 45 out of 49 eligible cities.
The 2024 settlement mandates a total payment of 170 billion reais, or approximately $32.7 billion, for reparations.
Some municipalities initially resisted the deal to pursue parallel legal action against BHP in London.
