Unifor Local 252 members at a Mississauga, Ontario warehouse ratified the first-ever union contract with Walmart in North America. The two-year collective agreement passed with 93% approval.

The contract provides wage increases of up to $5 per hour in the first year. Workers will receive an additional 3% raise in the second year. Lump sum payments between $4,250 and $8,750 will settle an outstanding unfair labor practice complaint.

A key provision includes a me too clause to guarantee these members any wage increases offered to other Canadian Walmart warehouse workers. The agreement also limits the use of short-term agency staff.

Unifor National President Lana Payne stated the deal radically reshapes workplace fairness. This historic agreement may influence future unionization efforts across the retail and warehousing sectors.
