Turkmengaz and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) have commenced construction on Phase 4 of the Galkynysh Gas Field expansion. The project is valued at approximately $5.1 billion. This phase will increase marketable gas capacity by 353 billion cubic feet (10 billion cubic meters) annually. The expansion includes new gas processing facilities and additional production wells.
Galkynysh is one of the world's largest onshore gas fields and Turkmenistan's primary export source. China currently receives 90% of the field's exports via the Central Asia-China pipeline. Total annual output will increase from 1.24 trillion cubic feet (tcf) to 1.59 tcf. The development strengthens Turkmenistan's role as a major supplier and enhances regional energy security.
