Norway’s oil industry and labor unions reached a wage agreement on Friday, June 5. The last-minute deal averted a strike involving more than 600 offshore platform workers.
Negotiators brokered the settlement with the Styrke, Safe, and Lederne unions. These organizations represent approximately 8,000 offshore employees. The agreement provides a general annual pay increase of $4,500, or 42,000 Norwegian crowns. It also includes increased allowances for shift and night work.
The resolution ensures continued production from Europe’s largest single supplier of natural gas. Norway currently produces more than 4 million barrels of oil equivalent per day. This agreement removes a key market uncertainty amid ongoing Middle East tensions.
