NVIDIA will acquire open-source AI platform Hugging Face for approximately $12.9 billion. The transaction marks one of NVIDIA’s largest acquisitions to date. This move expands the company’s influence beyond hardware into the software layers where AI models are developed and shared.
Hugging Face currently hosts millions of models and datasets for the global AI community. Over 200,000 companies use the platform for their development needs. The acquisition seeks to create an integrated ecosystem that drives demand for NVIDIA’s computing infrastructure.
CEO Jensen Huang stated Hugging Face will remain an open platform for the entire AI industry. Developers are not required to use NVIDIA hardware to build or deploy on the site. The deal secures NVIDIA’s role in the AI boom by combining chip dominance with a central developer hub.
