STMicroelectronics introduced the ST54M, the first secure mobile chip featuring a hardware accelerator for post-quantum cryptography (PQC). This single-die solution integrates the PQC accelerator with NFC, a secure element, and eSIM functionality. The technology protects smartphones and personal electronics against emerging quantum computers capable of breaking current encryption standards.

The ST54M chip supports mobile services including contactless payments, digital identity credentials, transit ticketing, and digital car keys. STMicroelectronics expects to achieve key industry certifications for the chip by July 2026. This timeline prepares mobile device manufacturers to meet upcoming quantum-ready security requirements.
