TeraWulf is redeveloping the former Century Aluminum smelter in Hawesville, Kentucky.
The new facility will focus on artificial intelligence and high-performance computing rather than cryptocurrency mining. The site provides immediate access to 480 megawatts of existing power infrastructure.
TeraWulf expects the data center to become operational in the second half of 2027. The project revitalizes a Hancock County location that has remained vacant since the smelter closed in 2022.
Construction will create approximately 1,000 jobs during the build-out phase. The facility will support 120 permanent technical positions once fully operational.
