Lockheed Martin signed a Memorandum of Understanding with General Motors to expand U.S. defense manufacturing capacity. General Motors will produce components for Lockheed Martin to accelerate the production of munitions.
The partnership responds to supply chain issues and production bottlenecks identified under the Defense Production Act. The federal government recently invoked the act to strengthen the national defense industrial base.
The collaboration utilizes GM’s manufacturing infrastructure to alleviate urgent constraints in munitions supply. GM Defense President Steve duMont stated the partnership aims to enhance speed, efficiency, and innovation across the aerospace and defense sectors.
This agreement signals a deeper integration of the automotive and defense industries. Other major automakers have recently shifted resources toward defense production.
