Southern Company (NYSE: SO) entered an equity distribution agreement to sell up to 50 million shares of common stock.

The utility appointed 16 financial institutions to act as sales agents or forward purchasers. This framework allows for flexible capital raising through various transaction types, including initially priced and collared forward sale agreements.

Southern Company will use the proceeds to fund large-scale capital expenditure plans. These projects address surging electricity demand driven by data centers and industrial expansion. The program aims to finance new generation and grid infrastructure to meet unprecedented regional demand.
