China released a revised national industry standard for range extenders used in electric vehicles (EREVs). The new regulations take effect on November 1, 2026. This framework replaces a policy that remained unchanged for eight years.

The update introduces detailed testing procedures, including first-time mandates for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH). EREV sales in China exceeded 1.2 million units during 2025.

Regulators aim to eliminate lower-performing designs by forcing greater powertrain integration. The shift requires manufacturers like Li Auto, Seres (Aito), Deepal, and Zeekr to adapt to stricter performance benchmarks.
