Samsung Electronics is experiencing a supply shortage for the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Demand for the foldable phone has significantly exceeded expectations in Vietnam, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
The bottleneck involves the Display Driver IC (DDI), a chip required for the device's OLED screen. Taiwan-based United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) manufactures the component on its 22-nanometer production line.
UMC's production facility has reached full capacity. The manufacturer declined Samsung's request for an expedited production run due to these limits.
Samsung is now considering reallocating DDI units from future product development to current production. This move aims to address the shortage and fulfill existing consumer orders.
