Samsung Electronics maintained a 7% share of the global pure-play foundry market in the second quarter of 2026. The overall market expanded 29% year-over-year during this period. Surging demand for AI chips drove this industry-wide growth.
TSMC captured a commanding 73% market share for the second consecutive quarter. Counterpoint Research data shows the gap between the two companies widened to 66 percentage points. This margin increased from 63 percentage points recorded one year earlier.
TSMC secured the majority of new orders from the booming AI sector. Samsung is now focusing on improving yields for its 2-nanometer manufacturing process. The company aims to use this technology to compete for advanced chip orders.
