Apple announced it will alter its App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework in the European Union, offering developers more flexible ways to ask for user tracking consent. The changes, set to arrive with iOS 27.2, come after a lengthy investigation by Germany's Federal Cartel Office, which found the previous system could unfairly favor Apple's own services over third-party apps.
The revised system will allow for redesigned consent pop-ups with more neutral language and less discouraging symbols. While an alternative prompt will be optional in most of the EU, it will be mandatory in Germany, France, Italy, Poland, and Romania due to specific legal requirements. The core requirement for apps to seek permission before tracking users remains in place.
