ASML plans to increase its workforce in Japan from 500 to approximately 700 by 2030. This expansion aims to bolster support for advanced semiconductor manufacturing. The move addresses the needs of key clients, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) and next-generation chipmaker Rapidus.
The company strengthens its local presence. It will increase engineers at its Hokkaido office to assist Rapidus with 2-nanometer chip production. This production is scheduled to begin in 2027.
ASML also plans to place employees in Kumamoto prefecture. These employees will support TSMC's second fabrication plant. This move aligns with Japan's strategic initiative to revitalize its domestic semiconductor industry.
